Bilal Hersi (Lewiston, Maine) can point to being a two-time Gatorade Player of the Year in Maine and three-time All-American selection as headliners on his soccer résumé.
Hersi can now toss Somalia U-20 international on there as well, having represented the Ocean Stars in late-November for a pair of AFCON qualifiers against Tanzania and Djibouti, two other Central-East Zone nations.
Even though Somalia lost both games – they were supposed to play Rwanda, too, but the country withdrew from competition – Hersi called it the experience of a lifetime.
