As families trickled onto Aztec SC’s weekly Zoom session last May, the atmosphere was rather abnormal. It was a Thursday, nearly a week after the club emailed families with a tragic announcement.
The week before, Sarah Duval (Andover, Mass.), a member of the 2009 Girls Red team, was diagnosed with B-Cell Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Duval had just started treatment at Boston Children’s Hospital.
These meetups, as became commonplace during the COVID-19 pandemic’s first few months, were designed for quarantine-friendly soccer training.
