Strikers tend to carry plenty of confidence. It’s borne out of a need to be laser-focused on the task at hand: needing one, maybe two chances, to find the back of the net. Their margin for error is slim.
German Giammattei, a sophomore at Amherst, has those characteristics in spades, but head coach Justin Serpone insists there’s more to it.
“I don’t want to sound cliché, but he’s just the nicest, most conscientious and polite kids who has an awesome personality,” Serpone said. “That’s why I didn’t have any hesitation before he got here telling people about how he was a terrific player and about all the stats. I knew it wouldn’t be a problem because he wouldn’t come in and think he’s the man. It was the opposite. All he wants to do is talk about his teammates.”
