Growing up in Durham, N.H., some of Marc Hubbard’s earliest memories of the men’s soccer team at the University of New Hampshire involve teams coached by Mike Noonan.
Noonan — the Westport, Conn., native who is now the head coach at Clemson — led the Wildcats from 1991 to ‘94. They even made the NCAA tournament in the latter year, opening the chance for Noonan to coach at Brown for 15 years. Hubbard, then a teenager playing for Noonan on the first Seacoast United club teams, would watch games in admiration.
“Those last two years, they were really good,” Hubbard said. “I was maybe 13 or so when they made the national tournament, and I was involved, going to camps, being a ball boy.”
