The 2018 college soccer season won’t get underway until August 2018, but it’s never too early to look ahead to locals who could make their name known in the Division 1 ranks.
Mindful of that, New England Soccer Journal presents its Top 40 rankings of D1 Men’s players whose past successes bode well for the future. To qualify for this list, players must call one of New England’s six states home, while some exceptions were made via extended prep school stays or if a student-athlete moved to the region later in life.
There’s no guarantee that these players progress to the next level – be it MLS, USL or overseas – but there’s reason for optimism when looking at the 2018 MLS SuperDraft. Nine players with ties to New England were selected throughout the first four rounds, including four first-round picks.
So as the college season nears, keep an eye on the list. These players, who have come through the club, prep, Development Academy and high school ranks, could constitute the future.
