The goal was one that most center backs dream of, never mind attempt.
Mitch Taintor (Storrs, Conn.), in full stride, took a touch to settle the ball and unleashed a 35-yard volley to the top corner, eventually earning USL Championship Goal of the Week honors. Still, Taintor said it was bittersweet that Sacramento Republic dropped the league match, 4-1, match against Reno 1868 FC last weekend.
“It was trying to show them how well the center backs can do it, but no it was one of those where I had the perfect bounce and I didn't have to break my stride,” Taintor said. “In training, I like to get forward just like every other center back likes to get forward as well.”
