Another week of New England boys prep action for the 2023 season is in the books, and the calendar has turned to October.
From now until mid-November, each week will feature an abundance of intriguing matchups and commendable individual performances from across the region.
To that point, each Monday during the season, we’ll aim to highlight five NEPSAC boys standout performers from the past week. Please keep in mind that this is just a sampling each week, and we are well-aware that several players will be deserving of recognition that we will hopefully provide throughout the fall.
Here are this week’s five standouts:

Jack Alexander
Phillips Andover | Class of 2025
The goalkeeper was Andover’s Man of the Match in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Taft. Alexander made numerous difficult saves to make sure his side would escape with the tie.
Ayden Gardner
Suffield Academy | Class of 2025
The versatile Gardner had the game-winner in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Hotchkiss and he also found the back of the net in last week’s 4-1 win over Wilbraham & Monson. Suffield is now 5-0 on the season.
Shafi Ibrahim
Kimball Union Academy | Class of 2024
The striker was immensely impactful in Saturday’s 3-0 win over Wilbraham & Monson. Ibrahim netted all three goals for KUA, which improved to 3-3-0 on the season.
Lorcan Mitchell
Loomis Chaffee | Class of 2024
Mitchell scored his team’s lone goal on a fantastic free kick from about 25 yards out in a 1-1 tie against Berkshire. Last Wednesday, Mitchell tallied a hat trick in an 11-1 Loomis (3-3-1) victory over Trinity-Pawling.
Matt Vogel
Worcester Academy | Class of 2025
The midfielder had a productive week with goals against St. Paul’s (2-0 win) and Brewster Academy (10-0 win). Worcester Academy, meanwhile, is the owner of a rock-solid 5-1-1 record.
