While not official yet, it's looking increasingly like the traditional MLS SuperDraft won't take place in 2020. The main reason for that thinking is the upcoming United Soccer Coaches’ Convention doesn't have the marquee event on its schedule, prompting speculation about what could surface in its place.
Whatever the end product is, professional opportunities will still be out there for players from New England.
There are bottom-of-the-roster spots available in Major League Soccer, especially as the league nears 26 teams for the 2020 season. Over a dozen MLS clubs have reserve squads in various USL leagues, and then there are independent clubs throughout the USL.
As the regular season winds down, here's a sense of which players could make it at the next level. Those within either play at schools in New England or have ties to around here.
