The memory is still fresh in Taylor Ross’ mind. She can’t shake it even as new memories pile up. It reverberates and spurs her forward.
All day long, children at the Tumaini orphanage in Kenya couldn’t stop saying “football” over and over again. When class finished up, they went outside for a game on their field, one where goalposts were made out of sticks and trees lined the pitch to make a rectangle.
As the match started, Ross couldn’t believe what she was seeing.
“I was running down the field, and I turned around and the teachers were in the game,” Ross said. “There’s this middle-aged guy dribbling the ball and smiling like he’s 10 years old.”
