Williamstown, Mass., is a community that has strong ties to the arts, complete with a theater scene and art museum. With those strands in mind, it’s no surprise that the community also is passionate about the beautiful game.
Whether it’s the youth, high school or college level, Williamstown loves soccer and excels at the game.
"A pickup game started here in the early 1970s by Kieron Kramer, who died four years ago, when he graduated Williams College, has been going consistently ever since, with the goal of twice per week," said Peter Harrison, one of the coordinators for the Williamstown Soccer Club. "In addition to a core group of guys and girls who play in the Over-40s league in Berkshire County each summer, this pickup game pulls in everyone from high school players, college players, college professors, Williamstown Theater Festival folk in the summer and from places including the U.K. and Ireland, Sweden, Caribbean, South America, Asia, Europe and Australia. Soccer in Williamstown is a thing beyond the tiny size of the village with literally people from 4 years old to in their 70s enjoying the beautiful game."
