The calendar has turned to April, which means MLS Next Flex is just over a month away.
The preeminent event on the MLS Next calendar, MLS Next Flex features the top 64 teams in the U-15 to U-19 age group from across the country. Teams participate in a round-robin format, determining the playoff participants for the MLS Next Cup in June.
Qualifying for Flex is an achievement. However, having success at Flex and advancing to the MLS Next Cup represents a significant milestone in a club's season.
Several New England clubs have already qualified for Flex from the Northeast Division thanks to strong play throughout the fall and spring. The New England Revolution and IFA New England lead the way with three teams qualified across the four age groups, while NEFC has two teams headed to Flex.
This year’s tournament will be held from May 9-13 at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds, Md. In advance of the event, here's a look at which New England teams are bound for Flex, and which teams are still in the hunt to secure a ticket.
