Cautious optimism, with an emphasis on the former word, shapes much of Connecticut high school soccer five weeks out from the 2020 season.
In touching base with five CIAC coaches, all told New England Soccer Journal that they’re hopeful the season gets off the ground. It’ll look different due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they all stressed, and things could change quickly.
But they see high school summer leagues and club scrimmages underway around the Nutmeg State, providing a case study in how coronavirus-conscious soccer can look this September. Plus, statewide COVID-19 cases have largely plateaued – the latest Johns Hopkins data reflects as much – while other states trend in the wrong direction.
