It’s already been a wild week in the New England college soccer world, with teams from the region impressing far and wide against top conferences.
For starters, Providence knocked off SEC foe Texas, 2-1, in overtime behind a game-winning strike from sophomore forward Elayna Grillakis (Lowell, Mass.). There was also how Boston College pushed Florida State, last year’s national champion, to the brink in a 5-4 match that saw freshman forward Sam Smith (Hanson, Mass.) score twice. She now has seven goals on the year.
Or there was Yale keeping its remarkable first season under new head coach Brendan Faherty going, as they knocked off Northeastern, 2-1, in overtime behind a game-winner from Lydia Shaw (Westport, Conn.).
That all sets the stage for this weekend’s slate, for which we’ve highlighted five matches that warrant some extra eyeballs. Conference play is here, folks.
