As a senior at Montpelier (Vt.) High School, Leo Riby-Williams had a banner year.
First, Riby-Williams scored the game-winning goal in the Division 2 state title game to give the Solons their first championship since 1996. Then, the 6-foot-3 athlete delivered another state title to Montpelier’s basketball team as a wing player, who finished with 1,006 career points. He even joined the lacrosse program in the spring and helped that team win a Division 3 championship.
Riby-Williams had played sports with the same group of kids since the third grade. Entering their senior year, they knew they had to make the most of that final chance.
"That senior year we really had a mindset that 'this is it, we’re going our separate ways after this,'" Riby-Williams said. "We know that our group and our talent together deserves some recognition. It was definitely a change in mindset."
