The Class A final — a heavyweight bout between Berkshire and Loomis Chaffee — had just ended in dramatic fashion, with junior forward Michael Suski bagging a golden goal in the 101st minute.
He reeled toward the corner flag, ripping off his No. 11 jersey to reveal a Superman shirt underneath. A 1-0 victory belonged to the Loomis Chaffee Pelicans, denying the Berkshire Bears their fourth title in five years.
"The adrenaline rush was insane," said Suski (Avon, Conn.). "All of my teammates were running over to me, the kids on the bench, my family members, the coaches. It was the best feeling ever. I’ve been wearing my Superman shirt underneath in anticipation of this."
But as the trophy ceremony began, the focus quickly shifted to the looming storyline between Berkshire, the No. 1 seed, and Loomis Chaffee, the No. 2 seed.
