South Shore Select (2003 girls) and NEFC Breakers (2004 girls) marched through their respective brackets and won national titles at the 2017 NPL Finals last month in Westfield, Ind.
Both teams navigated through their respective gauntlets to lift the silverware July 17 and draw their sterling campaigns to a close.
South Shore Select, playing out of Hingham, Mass., romped through group play by scoring 19 goals without conceding even once. The knockout stage posed a more considerable challenge, but South Shore Select dispatched PDA South Nova, 3-1, in the semifinals and SUSA NPL ’03, 2-1, in the final to win the tournament.
NEFC Breakers, playing out of Mendon, Mass., charted a similar course to triumph by accumulating 25 goals on their way to the title. The decisive encounters included a 4-2 win over Classics Elite ’04 in the semifinals and a 3-2 victory over Legends FC Riverside in the final.
