Four-year starters and center backs Lauren Hinton and Izzy Lachcik have logged a lot of minutes playing soccer together at Loomis Chaffee and with Oakwood Soccer Club.
So it seemed fitting that for Loomis to win a second straight New England Class A championship last month, its two defensive pillars needed to stand strong against a second-half barrage from the talented attack of Buckingham, Browne & Nichols.
If three quick goals to open the game had second-seeded Loomis looking good to start the final — played on its home field in Windsor, Conn. — the momentum shifted firmly back to No. 5 BB&N when Tori Huang scored before halftime and All-American Kayla Duran, the Independent School League MVP who is bound for Boston College, cut the gap to 3-2 with her score early in the second half.
Game on.
