When Jair Whyte (Quincy, Mass.) was in the early stages of the recruiting process, he had crossed Merrimack College off his list.
It wasn't that Merrimack had no interest, it was Jair who had no interest.
His father, Conrad Whyte, is an assistant coach for the Merrimack men’s soccer team, and Jair didn’t want the perception to be that he’d be at Merrimack simply because of nepotism.
"Everything I’ve had in my life, I’ve had to work for," said Jair. "But sometimes that felt like it was pushed aside because of my dad, with him being a coach.
