A few years ago, Peter Scharstein (Weybridge, Vt.) attended Deutsches Fussball Internat, a residential boarding academy in Germany that offered him a chance to play soccer internationally at a very high level.
It was during that two-year experience that Scharstein developed a deep understanding and appreciation of European, and more specifically, German style soccer. It was less the kick-and-run game that he had been mostly exposed to prior to arriving in Germany, and more intricate and refined.
"It’s really about knowing the game. It’s really about knowing what you’re going to do before you get the ball," said Scharstein. "You can excel so much in Europe just with awareness."
With that in mind, the Loomis Chaffee Class of 2022 defender recently committed to Division 1 Iona College. It’s there that Scharstein believes he’ll get the unique opportunity to play that same brand of soccer that he learned to cherish during his time living in Munich.
