Hopes for a full-fledged NEWMAC season in 2020 took another hit Monday with Clark announcing that its teams won’t compete due to COVID-19 pandemic concerns.
MIT was the first NEWMAC program with both men’s and women’s teams to cancel, while all-women’s schools Mount Holyoke, Smith and Wellesley have called off intercollegiate competition as well. Later Tuesday, after publishing this story, Emerson also cancelled its season.
Clark women’s coach Brienne Smith said the Massachusetts-heavy conference could follow in the NESCAC’s shoes, with the nation’s top Division III conference cancelling fall competition altogether last Friday.
