With the college soccer season just two months away, Quinnipiac men’s soccer coach Eric Da Costa (New Bedford, Mass.) is noticeably excited for an Aug. 30 opener at Boston College.
That anticipation, in large part, is boosted by a what-could-have-been feeling that’s lingered since Nov. 11, 2018. That’s when the Bobcats fell to Rider, 1-0, in the MAAC championship game, a short while after narrowly finishing the regular season in second place to Fairfield.
Last season, the program from Hamden, Conn., was right on the precipice, only to fall short.
“At the end of the day, we were a point shy of the regular season championship and a goal shy of the title,” Da Costa said of going 10-6-3. “You sit back and on paper it all looks great and successful, but we all left with a bitter taste because we were right there and didn’t finish the job."
