When Michael Tahiru recalls how he landed at Hebron Academy, he is quick to call the process an "interesting journey."
One look at the circuitous road explains his phrasing. Tahiru hails from Accra, Ghana. He first heard of the prep school in southwestern Maine through a friend who attends school in Denmark. Before that point, there was a relationship brewing with Kurt Swanbeck, Hebron’s head coach, who introduced himself to Tahiru’s hometown coach via LinkedIn and spent two months nurturing that relationship.
Swanbeck eventually convinced Tahiru to apply, and after paperwork difficulties at the embassy in Ghana, he enrolled at Hebron in November 2015.
Flash forward to last fall, and Tahiru scored 35 goals en route to helping the Lumberjacks to a NEPSAC Class C title and parlayed that performance into a commitment to play college soccer at Lehigh University, a Division 1 school in Pennsylvania.
