The 2017 U.S. Soccer Development Academy playoffs, held from June 20-26 in Westfield, Ind., featured three clubs with New England ties.
The sole U-16 representative was Oakwood Soccer Club, which is based out of Connecticut. That side, led by head coach Kevin Bacher, entered a group featuring the Capital Area Railhawks, Bethesda SC and Real So Cal, all after compiling a 13-7-6 regular-season record.
Key players for Bacher’s side, which mostly hails from the greater Hartford area, included Brad Schweickert (North Haven, Conn.) and Chris Roman (South Glastonbury, Conn.) in midfield, as well as Kendall Newman (Cromwell, Conn.) and Sloan Sullivan (Ellington, Conn.) at the back.
