One look at the schedule and the scheduled trip to southern California indicated the possibility of jet lag. Michael Mancienne expected a grueling travel week on his longest excursion since joining the New England Revolution this summer. He just didn’t anticipate his journey heading in the opposite direction.
Instead of heading to Los Angeles with his Revolution teammates for the 1-1 draw at LAFC on Sept. 14, Mancienne caught a flight back to his native England to witness the birth of his first child, Noah, on Sept. 13.
“It’s an indescribable feeling,” Mancienne told revolutionsoccer.net’s Jeff Lemieux upon his return from London. “There’s no better feeling in the world. I never thought I’d know love like that until I saw my son. I’m just happy that everyone’s healthy. He’s healthy. He’s a big boy: 8 pounds, 4 ounces. My missus is petite, as well, so I don’t know how she was carrying him, but fair play to her. She is strong. She’s a strong woman and I’m so proud of her.”
