The defending MIAA Division 2 girls’ soccer champion has already advanced to the second round, but Notre Dame (Hingham) is sitting there as a No. 15 seed and waiting for the winner of tonight’s game between No. 31 Ludlow and No. 2 Duxbury.
No. 12 Westwood (11-6-2) is also in the second round, thanks to Monday’s 2-1 win against a tough Bishop Stang team (13-5-1). Like Notre Dame and others, the Wolverines are a double-digit seed that could make a deep run. That includes two teams from the western half of the state: No. 23 Northampton (14-2-3), 2-1 overtime winners against No. 10 Marblehead, and No. 19 Minnechaug (8-6-5), 4-3 PK winners over No. 14 Scituate. Eighth-seeded Walpole, No. 17 Westfield and No. 20 Grafton are all in the second round as well.
The complete second round, also known as the Round of 16, will be filled out after nine more first round games on Wednesday and Thursday.
