MIDDLETON, Mass. – Central Catholic needed a response.
After the No. 9 Raiders outplayed Masconomet in the first half, Maggie Blosser gave the No. 3 Chieftains a 1-0 lead just three minutes into the second half.
But the advantage was short-lived.
Shortly after, Central's Ciara Sammon got the ball to the right of the box and sent a high shot that found the top-left corner over Masco goalie Evy Mills to tie it.
Two minutes later, the Raiders were on the attack again. Sarah Tressler sent a ball ahead for Chloe Fourtzialas, who found Abigail Bilodeau coming in as the trailer. Bilodeau stepped around a defender and rifled one home inside the right post for the score and a 2-1 lead.
From there, Central Catholic's back line held Masco at bay, playing stout defense and taking away the Chieftains' time and space to hold on for the win.
It marked a big-time win over a big-time opponent for the Raiders, who improved to 12-1-1 and extended their winning streak to six and their unbeaten streak to 13. C-C ranked ninth in the MIAA's latest Division 1 power rankings.
Masco, meanwhile, dropped to 13-3-0 on the season as its nine-game winning streak came to an end. It was just the second time in 10 games the defending Division 2 champs had been held to fewer than two goals. The Chieftains were No. 7 in Friday's D2 power rankings.
Let's dive into nine standouts from the thriller.
