When Ken Carlin first arrived on the Hingham (Mass.) High School boys soccer sideline in 1999, he decided he wanted to bring something artistic and innovative to the somewhat-rudimentary style of sport he inherited.
Nearly a quarter century, and more than 300 victories later, he allows that it is bittersweet looking at a final season after all the thrills the players who embraced that style have brought to the school and their coach throughout his career with the Harbormen.
"When I came to high school soccer, everyone was playing a game where they kicked the ball down the other end and ran real fast after it," Carlin told New England Soccer Journal. "It’s wasn’t that good. But (Hingham) had some good players. Some real athletic kids.
