CHELMSFORD, Mass. – Lowell's chase for perfection continues.
The Red Raiders took down Merrimack Valley Conference rival Chelmsford, 1-0 on the road, in a heated, physical win. With the victory, Lowell now sits at 17-0-0 on the season with seven straight shutouts and clean sheets in 11 of their last 12.
The undefeated streak continuing was far from a guarantee, though.
The Lions (8-3-4) had Lowell on the ropes for much of the first half, dominating possession and generating several scoring chances early on.
The Red Raiders eventually found their legs before senior striker Davi de Souza drew a penalty kick after getting taken down after he went up for a header in the box. He made no mistake, scoring the game's lone goal.
Chelmsford continued to apply pressure well into the second half as the intensity ratcheted up with each side drawing its share of free kicks and pleading for plenty more. The Lions had a few strong chances go by the wayside late, including a header off a corner that barely missed high.
Let's dive into six players who stood out.
