Monday through Saturday, Liam Sloan wakes up around 6:30 a.m., takes the bus to training, and then returns home around 1 p.m. to rest up.
The catch? Sloan, a Harvard, Mass., native, is a 14-hour flight from home in Buenos Aires, Argentina, training with San Lorenzo’s U-19 team.
The comforts of the Middlesex School, where he graduated, and a club career which included spells with FC Stars, the New England Revolution academy and GPS Massachusetts are a world away. The 19-year-old isn’t on trial, but instead has taken a gap year ahead of joining Middlebury’s program next fall in the NESCAC.
