I moved to Boston in 2001 to begin my professional soccer career.
Finally, after we had won the 1999 World Cup at the Rose Bowl, we had a professional league to call our own — the Women’s United Soccer Association.
I would join the Boston Breakers for the inaugural season, and I moved to Boston for the first time. I had no idea what was in store for me or what to expect. I just knew that I would be playing soccer as a pro, and I was excited.
It was exciting to continue playing, of course, but it was just as exciting to see the impact we were having on young players, especially the girls, who finally had a chance to observe women playing professional soccer.
For three years, I played my heart out for the fans of the Breakers and the fans of WUSA. Every time I stepped on that field, I wanted people (especially those young girls) to see women play this great game right in their backyard. I enjoyed every second of my time in Boston, and looked forward to having a long professional career.
