A major coaching change in New England college soccer was made official on Monday, as Josh Shapiro left Division 3 powerhouse Tufts for a reclamation project as Harvard head coach.
The move had been rumored in local circles for weeks, given all that Shapiro accomplished with the Jumbos. He arrived in Medford, Mass., in 2010 and turned a two-win team into a tour de force that won four national titles in six years (2014-19). His tenure also included NESCAC titles in 2017 and ‘19.
At Harvard, Shapiro will follow in the footsteps of Pieter Lehrer and look to rebuild a program that’s coming off a 0-14-1 season. Record-wise, it was the Crimson’s worst-ever season stretching back to their 1905 start.
