LANCASTER, Mass. – The second annual ISL Boys Soccer Showcase was held Wednesday at Progin Park in Lancaster, Mass., offering college coaches a viewing of prep school players in league competition.
After so-so attendance by college coaches last year, the profile and number of schools both ramped up for 2018. Division 1 programs in attendance included Boston University, Harvard, UMass and Northeastern, while a fair deal of NESCAC, NEWMAC and GNAC programs – all from Division 3 – were also there.
Such interest was a testament to the ISL’s historic reputation, where there simply aren’t easy games. Each year, a small handful of ISL players progress onto Division 1 soccer, while the vast majority take the Division 3 route. That’s partially because of talent level, but also the academic profile of these student-athletes.
From that trend, New England Soccer Journal has highlighted 20 uncommitted standouts at the ISL Boys Soccer Showcase. Eighteen of the 20 players are from Massachusetts, ranging from underclassmen ripe with potential to seniors who could soon make a verbal commitment.
