Tuesday afternoon produced several firsts for the UConn men’s soccer team.
The Huskies, thanks to a 3-0 win over Sacred Heart, emphatically opened the recently-renovated Joseph J. Morrone Stadium. During a brisk winter, temperatures even reached 45 degrees as the sun poked through in Storrs, Conn.
The match also served as New England’s first official Division I men’s game since November 2019. The COVID-19 pandemic previously sidelined all 22 sides during the fall semester, with everyone but the region’s four Ivy League programs forging ahead this spring.
