In Lauren Young’s recollection, she went into nothing more than a 50-50 challenge at National Premier League Finals last July in Indiana.
"You take on those tackles 50 times a game and don’t think twice about it," said Young (Bangor, Maine). "They’re routine."
The end result, however, was not for the outside back, now on Seacoast Maine’s U-19 NPL team. In that commonplace challenge, she broke the fibula and tibula on her dominant right leg. Surgery was immediately required, with the moments leading up to and after Young’s injury still crystal clear for Branden Noltkamper, her Seacoast coach.
