When late-November rolls around each fall, one (usual) guarantee is state champions are crowned in high school soccer. State tournament runs end in crushing defeat for some and pure elation for others, capping the story for teams around the region.
That dynamic still unfolded across New England in 2020, but not to the extent we're accustomed to. In fact, only three of six states held state tournaments as the COVID-19 pandemic reshaped the landscape.
When all was said and done, state champions were crowned in New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont. Teams in Connecticut, Maine and Massachusetts weren't so lucky.
Nonetheless, we're taking stock of those that hold bragging rights until 2021. When the pressure ramped up, they raised their level and won a trophy.
