After scoring for Canada against Venezuela in the Copa America quarterfinals, Jacob Shaffelburg paid tribute to teammate Tajon Buchanan, displaying a No. 17 shirt on the AT&T Stadium field in Arlington, Texas.
For New Englanders, it provided a reminder that Shaffelburg developed playing for the NEPSAC's Berkshire School (2015-18) and Buchanan with the New England Revolution (2019-21).
Unfortunately, they were able to combine for only 24 minutes during the tournament, as Buchanan sustained a broken tibia during Canada practice. Shaffelburg, though, has proven himself as a breakout star, sharing a post-match spotlight with fellow Nova Scotia native Sidney Crosby after Canada advanced to the semifinals.
