It took Worcester Academy coach Jen Marino one week to find out Avery Galante was wired differently.
At the end of the second day of the 2019 preseason, Galante was playing in a small-sided game, when she saw the ball in the air. An eighth-grader at the time, Galante ran through the ball to regain possession.
Only she didn’t gain possession; one of her scrimmage opponents got there first. Galante didn’t notice and was kicked hard in the face.
"A teammate of mine, the ball was up in the air, she put her foot up in the air, I just ran through her foot and she clipped me," Galante said. "My lip was all blown-up. I was like, 'this is my second day here, what the heck?'"
