Before heading off to UConn, Chloe Landers (Glastonbury, Conn.) took home one last award to cap her decorated high school career: Gatorade Player of the Year in Connecticut.
It arrives after Landers, already a United Soccer Coaches All-American, won a Class LL state championship during her senior year. Capable of playing in midfield or defense, Landers had 11 goals and 38 assists during her Glastonbury Lancers career.
The list goes on and on, which understandably could lead to a hint of arrogance for any teenager. But with Landers, the impact tilts in another direction.
“Don’t get me wrong, I’m very grateful,” she said. “How can you not be? I’ve been really honored and really thankful for everything I’ve been recognized for, but I just try to be a better teammate for everyone on that team and try to better the team as a whole.”
