As each academic year winds down, Gatorade State Player of the Year honors are dished out for boys and girls soccer. They recognize athletic excellence, academic achievement and exemplary character. In other words, each GPOY award celebrates top up-and-coming student-athletes.
But what happens on the GPOY front in a 2020-21 school year where high school seasons are reduced (i.e. Massachusetts) or nonexistent (i.e. Founders League), all due to the COVID-19 pandemic?
However things evolve, we're offering predictions of frontrunners in New England's six states. Consider this who early favorites would be in a normal year, all while acknowledging the full picture simply can't come into view.
