This weekend, girls Elite Clubs National League programs from across the country will head to Lakewood Ranch, Fla., to compete in the ECNL Florida showcase.
The annual event is an important date on the ECNL schedule. It not only serves as a winter measuring stick for clubs before the season gets cranked up significantly in March, but it’s also an enormous opportunity for players to be seen by numerous college coaches, including those from high-profile programs.
"For us, college recruitment is the big thing," said Jason Dewhurst, Director of Coaching for FC Stars. "We had another event in Tennessee in early-December. My 2005 team played against Real Colorado in the first game and I think there were 119 college coaches on the sideline.
"It’s just a big college recruitment event for us, and it’s just about getting more games under our belts."
