The sting of falling to Thayer Academy in the semifinals of the NEPSAC Class B tournament last year eventually wore off some for Pingree head coach Dushawne “Doc” Simpson.
As for Nina and Porter Dooley, then-juniors for the Highlanders? Not so much. In fact, when they were playing junior varsity hockey and a game with Thayer approached, they took it pretty darn seriously.
“I walk past Nina and she was like, ‘It’s a chance to get even,’” Simpson said. “I thought she was joking, but ends up she was that intense about it.”
The 17-year-old twins from Hamilton, Mass., weren’t twisting Simpson’s leg, either. Not in the slightest.
