As June turns to July, reality settles in that the Development Academy season has concluded for most clubs around the country. A select few are still vying for national championships at the U-17 and U-19 age groups, but the page has otherwise turned.
That certainly applies to Beachside SC, which recently returned from the Summer Showcase and Playoffs in Oceanside, Calif. The club’s U-17s were the only team from New England to make the 32-team playoff stage, and results were mixed, going 1-2.
But academy director Paul Melitsanopoulos feels there were positive takeaways, including a 4-2 defeat against the De Anza Force. The California-based club is the DA's last undefeated U-17 team and will play a semifinal at the championships July 8-11 in Irvine, Calif.
