After the Little East suspended Fall 2020 sports earlier this week, it was made official: No Division III conference in New England will have a normal season. To put it lightly, the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent national response has taken quite the toll.
Teams can still practice and set up scrimmages if they so desire, but the normal pattern of games and championship charges won't take place. It's a weird feeling, with fall and New England college soccer forming a marriage that's long seemed unbreakable.
So, we got to wondering about what could have been. Who would have been the breakout stars? Would regional powerhouses stay atop their games? What about teams that defied all expectations?
We'll have to wait until possibly the spring, or even beyond, to get answers. But in the meantime, here are 10 storylines that we were looking forward to in 2020.
