When Sam McCann (Stamford, Conn.) entered the men’s soccer transfer portal and decided to move to George Mason after two years at Quinnipiac, his decision had a holistic aspect.
"I think more than anything, I was looking for a home environment, a place where I felt comfortable to be myself, both as a person and as a player, and George Mason has offered me the opportunity to do that here," McCann said.
The 5-foot-10 forward and former New York City FC Academy player said everything is "top-notch" at the Fairfax, Va., school, from the soccer facilities to the academic support.
It is also located about 20 miles west of Washington, D.C., which is a "great place to be located." Second-year Patriots coach Rich Costanzo convincingly sold McCann on transferring after one phone call.
