Another Designated Player is on his way to the New England Revolution. But the DP’s arrival might not be in time to salvage the team’s second season under head coach Brad Friedel.
After a 2-0 loss to FC Cincinnati on Sunday, Friedel said the Revolution are hoping to conclude negotiations for a player contracted to a European club before May 7, when the Primary Transfer Window closes in MLS. “If not it will be July,” Friedel said. The Secondary Transfer Window opens on July 7 before closing on Aug. 7.
Friedel would not reveal the prospective signing’s name.
“This is a player who’s been scouted a long, long time, I know personally,” Friedel said. “And I’ve known him for many, many years, who wants to play here, who wants to live here.”
