Teammates and coaches tend not to take the easy route when they discuss Harry Swartz’s on-field success. Yes, Swartz is one of Northeastern’s top attacking players — as highlighted by his overtime game-winner, a diving header, Sept. 16 vs. the College of Charleston — but they instead beam about the redshirt junior’s character.
Senior Ackim Mpofu, one of three captains alongside Swartz, laughs about the pregame handshake they share. There also are jokes about offseason futsal games, a tradition in which the Needham, Mass., native “loses his mind” if his team suffers a defeat.
“He’s a fighter, he’s a warrior in everything he does on the field and outside of it,” Mpofu said. “When he’s playing, he’s crazy competitive and then after it’s the softer side, the guy who jokes around. I love that about him.”
