For the second straight year, Central Connecticut State is heading to the NCAA tournament after winning the Northeast Conference tournament. They’re now 25-0-3 in their last 28 home games, and haven’t lost in New Britain, Conn., since Sept. 3, 2017.
In the first round of the Big Dance, the Blue Devils (12-4-4) will travel down to face Rutgers, a Big Ten program, on Friday at 7 p.m. in Piscataway, N.J. The winner will advance to face either Georgetown or West Virginia in the second round.
While the NCAA tournament can produce unfamiliar matchups, that’s not the case for CCSU. They faced Rutgers back on Aug. 22 to open their season, though dropped a 2-1 decision against a side that includes senior defender Chantelle Swaby (West Hartford, Conn.), a veteran of Jamaica’s 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup team.
