As head coach/sporting director Bruce Arena continues to mold the New England Revolution ahead of the 2020 season, elements of the Brad Friedel era can still be found throughout the roster.
Look no further than Carles Gil, the 2019 MLS Newcomer of the Year, who’s represented by Promoesport, one of the world’s largest soccer agencies. Friedel has been running their U.S. branch since November, with the Spanish midfielder one of two MLS players they currently represent.
Gil was signed by New England to a Designated Player deal ahead of the 2019 campaign from Deportivo de La Coruña, back when Friedel was entering his second year at the helm. The deal, Friedel said, required intimate work between himself, Gil and José Rodriguez Baster, founder and football director for Promoesport.
