As the 2018-19 club soccer season nears its close, a rare break approaches for youth soccer in New England. Before we know it, that'll quickly go away in late August when high school, prep school and Development Academy teams return for preseason.
While leagues go on hold, the region’s players aren’t exactly pressing pause. College soccer hopefuls will flood to campuses around the country for ID camps, go on campus visits and start to narrow in their search. Perhaps more than any time of year, summertime is where recruiting efforts hit another gear.
So, who are some of the names that could be coming off the board, so to speak? From the Class of 2020 (rising seniors or postgraduates), New England Soccer Journal has highlighted 40 players to keep an eye out for. They aren’t necessarily the top 40, but rather uncommitted players who have all turned heads for one reason or another.
Some high-profile players have already verbally committed, with Sammed Bawa (North Carolina/Taft), Andres Jasson (Stanford/New York City FC/Greenwich, Conn.) and Jamie Lowell (Maryland/Seattle Sounders/Brentwood, N.H.) prime examples.
