And then there was one.
Boston College, as part of the ACC, is the only college soccer program in New England left awaiting a 2020 season after the Big East announced Wednesday that it has cancelled fall sports amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
That leaves 16 of 23 Division I programs across the region certainly not playing this fall, while the Atlantic 10 and Northeast Conference (another six programs) have announced they’ll reassess matters once the school year gets underway. Coaches from both conferences previously told New England Soccer Journal that it’s highly unlikely they’ll compete until at least the Spring 2021 semester, with the Big East also stating it’ll assess alternative options for fall sports being played during that time.
